Stories From The Station – Final Exhibition
Join us on 31 January and 1 February for the final exhibition of Stories from the Station, a GWR-funded community heritage project delivered by Blystra between April 2025 and January 2026.
Funded by the GWR Customer and Community Improvement Fund, Stories from the Station is a multi-art project exploring the rich social history of Newquay’s railway station. The project was created to coincide with the 200-year anniversary of the world’s first passenger steam train journey (27 September 1825), and looks at how the arrival of the railway shaped life in Newquay.
Over the past year, the Blystra team has worked with partners across Newquay and Cornwall to create films, performances and creative writing workshops, as well as a striking willow steam train lantern that paraded through Trenance Valley as part of the 2025 Newquay Lantern Parade.
This final exhibition brings everything together. Visitors can see the willow train up close, watch the films created during the project, explore archive material from Newquay Museum, and discover stories of people whose lives were changed by the coming of the railway, told by people living in Newquay today.
The exhibition runs 11am to 3pm on 31 January and 1 February at Trenance Cottages (Rose Function Room). No booking is required, just pop in and see what the community has created.
After these two days, the exhibition will move to Newquay Museum, where it will be on display for a longer period.
Both Trenance Cottages and the Garden Café will be open during the exhibition, so you can make a morning or afternoon of it by exploring the show and enjoying food and drink while you visit.
